Among those in attendance are the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Aliko Dangote, Sultan of Sokoto, the Emir of Kano, the Olu of Warri, the Ooni of Ife and the Obi of Onitsha.

Justices Ademola, Dimgba resume sitting after DSS raid

Barely two weeks after eight senior judicial officers were raided by the operatives of the Department of State Services between October 8 and 9, two judges of the Federal High Court in Abuja have resumed sitting on Monday.

While Justice Adeniyi Ademola was arrested after the raid and later granted bail, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba’s residence was only searched but he was not arrested.

Justice Ademola sat at Court 7 on Monday while Justice Dimgba heard a case  marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/788/2016, in his Court 11.

Kastina Police Orders Married 14-Year-Old Girl To Go Back To Her Family

14-year-old Habiba, who got married to a palace aide of Emir of Kastina, has been ordered by the Kastina State Police Command to return home as she’s too young to make decisions for herself.

According to Punchng, the directive came from the State’s Commissioner of Police,  Usman Abdullahi, after he received a petition about the issue in September and invited Lawal, the alleged abductor.

The command also disclosed that Habiba’s abductor, Lawal, who allegedly converted her to Islam forcefully, was released on bail, as there was no criminal charges against him.

Prophetess remanded for stealing neighbour’s turkey

41-year-old A C & S prophetess, Sola Ajayi, who allegedly stole a Canadian-breed life turkey valued at N30, 000,  is to remain behind bars, an Ile Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun ruled on Monday. Ajayi was ordered to be kept in prison custody over the inability to perfect her bail.

Chief Magistrate, Olalekan Ijiyode had granted her bail in the sum of N30, 000 with one surety in like sum. Ijiyode added that the surety must be a civil servant and should also reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Banks suspend ATM card usage abroad

Following the contuined dollar scarcity i the country, Deposit Money Banks have begun suspending their Automated Teller Machine cards (debit and credit) from working overseas as dollar scarcity continues to hit the economy badly.

Stanbic IBTC Bank, Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria and Guaranty Trust Bank on Friday announced the suspension of their overseas ATM card services.

Also suspended by the banks are online transactions priced in foreign currencies. This means that customers of the banks will no longer be able to use their debit or credit cards to make online transactions that are denominated in dollars, euros, pounds sterling and other foreign currencies.

How hired killer fell in love with target, demanded sex

24 years old Tayo Adeyemi has confessed to have been hired to kill a female hotel lodger in the Alakija, Satellite Town area of the state. 

The suspect, who hails Kwara State was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command after he sneaked into the hotel, White House, and demanded that his target, simply known as Rosemary, had sex with him so he would spare her life.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Adeyemi, who dropped out of senior secondary school, was arrested by the Satellite Town Police Division last Thursday.

It was the first meeting after two and half years of captivity. The excited girls ran, crying to parents who were equally so excited to see them.

Mikel, Iheanacho and Musa make 2016 CAF award list

A 30 man shortlist for the 2016 African Player of the Year award has been released by the Confederation of African Football, CAF, with John Obi Mikel, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa making the list. 

The Prestigious annual award, which will take place in Abuja on Thursday, Jan 5, 2017, will see the Nigerian stars battle the current holder, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon, Samuel Eto’o from Cameroon among several others.

Following the recent raid by the Department of State Security, DSS last Saturday that lead to the arrest and detention of some senior judges, Adeniyi Ademola who was among the judges that were arrested and detained, says he was made to sign a confessional statement at the DSS office with a gun pointed at him.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ademola alleged that the sting operation carried out by DSS at his home in Abuja, was a personal vendetta against him masterminded by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

Man caught after buying condoms for sex with 11-year-old girl

38 years old Mark McKenna (pictured above), who was due to marry his long-time fiancee has been caught by a vigilante group trying to have sex with an 11-year-old girl.

According to Metro UK, 38-year-old Mark McKenna, was tracked down to Bluewater shopping centre in Kent after he bought condoms for his meeting with a young girl while his fiancee was on a hen do.

The report says that McKenna had sent a large volume of text messages and naked pictures of himself to the girl who did not exist before the meeting.

Nigeria will remain in recession till 2020 – Agbakoba

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, has said Nigeria will continue to wallow in economic recession until 2020 except the Federal Government takes hold of the banking sector and exert more regulatory control, among other measures.

Also, the senator representing Lagos-West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Adeola, has called for urgent measures to tackle the current economic recession facing the country.

#EdoDecides: Police, DSS call for postponement of Edo election

The Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Security DSS, have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the Saturday September 10th governorship election in Edo state for security reasons. The security agencies made the call at a joint press briefing at the DSS Headquarters in Abuja today September 7th.

According to the spokesman of the police, DCP Don Awunah and his DSS counterpart, Tony Okeowo represented by Garba Abdullahi, credible intelligence available to them indicates that there may be a terror attack during next week's Sallah holidays, especially in Edo State. ‎

Obama cancels meeting with new Philippine President Duterte after he called him a SOB

United States president, Barack Obama has called off a planned meeting Tuesday with new Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, because he didn't want Obama to ask him questions about his directive for civilians to kill drug dealers in the Philippines. 

It's unusual for one president to tell another what to say or not say, and much rarer to call the other a "son of a bitch."  Before Duterte flew to Laos for a regional summit he warned Obama not to challenge him over extrajudicial killings in the Philippines.
Obama responded by saying:

"Clearly, he's a colorful guy." "What I've instructed my team to do is talk to their Philippine counterparts to find out is this in fact a time where we can have some constructive, productive conversations."

High Court restrains Imo state govt from relocating, destroying or tampering with Ekeukwu Owerri market

On Monday, an Imo State High Court which was presided over by Justice Sabinus I. Opara, restrained the state government from destroying, relocating or tampering with the Ekeukwu Owerri Market, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit, HOW/380/2016.
The respondents included the Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha the Attorney General of Imo State, and the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Planning.

Two killed as cultists clash again in Rivers

Two persons were, on Sunday night, shot dead during a cult clash in Egita community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was learnt that the two cult groups, Icelanders and the Greenlanders that have been terrorising the area, were locked in a war of supremacy.
A community source told our correspondent that the cause of the recent clash was still not known, but that the boys in the area had not clashed for a long time now.

A Florida man, Mack Yearwood, a man with two outstanding warrants as well as a possible tie to an open case was captured by police after he used his 'wanted by police' poster as his Facebook profile photo.

“Facebook is a great way to communicate and connect with old friends and family,” Cpl. Brian Bossio wrote in a post on the Stuart Police Department’s Facebook page.  If you are wanted by the police, it’s probably not a good idea to use the ‘Wanted of the Week’ poster of yourself as your profile pic.”

26-year-old Eritrean Merhawit Tesfamariam gave birth prematurely to twins on board a rickety boat off the Libyan coast in late August. Her twins, Hiyap (1.6 kilos) and Evenezer (1.3 kilos) are currently in incubators in Palermo's Cervello Hospital, Italy.

CNN's Ben Wedeman spent the day with Merhawit in the hospital, trying to learn her story, how she escaped from Eritrea to Libya and managed to get to Italy.
So far this year, 3,165 migrants and refugees have died attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe, often in overcrowded boats and rafts.

Woman arrested & charged with arson after setting ablaze car she assumed belonged to her ex boyfriend

A Florida woman, Carmen Chamblee, 19, has been arrested and charged with second degree arson for setting fire to a car she thought belonged to her ex boyfriend. Turns she set ablaze the wrong car.

According to ABC, authorities believe that Chamblee who has since been arrested, intentionally set a Honda on fire earlier this month. Security camera caught footage of the incident and it is believed that she thought that the vehicle belong to her ex boyfriend.

Lagos Police arrests house guard who killed his employer in Ajah

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Tanko Abdulateef, a 22-year old House guard who allegedly killed his employer, Mrs Mabel Mba Okafor in Ajah area of the State on August 17, 2016. The suspect, who was arrested from his hiding in Bali, Taraba State, was said to have stabbed the victim in the stomach and left her stomach ripped open.

It was also gathered that the suspect took away valuable items from the victim including three phones, trinket and a lot of clothes, all of which were recovered from him.

4 Soldiers of 'Operation Crocodile Smile' drown In Bayelsa boat mishap

Four soldiers that are part of the Operation Crocodile in the Niger Delta have drowned in a boat mishap in Bayelsa state today September 5th. The incident happened at about 10 am this morning along the Brass Water Front in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

The riffles of the soldiers are currently missing. A resident of the community, Effa, who spoke with Leadership, said attempts by the youths in the community and other soldiers to rescue the soldiers failed as the drowned soldiers could not be found.

Civil servants in Edo State allegedly directed to wear APC arm bands or risk being sacked

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is claiming that the Edo State government has directed all civil servants in the state to wear APC arm bands and adorn their walls and tables in the office with the party’s posters and flags or risk being sacked.
A statement by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Nehikhare, condemned the directive, describing the move as a 'tragic and pathetic'
"Civil servants are supposed to be apolitical, the trend where they were ordered through text messages ostensibly from the Head of Service to immediately adorn the arm bands, paste posters and put the APC flag on their desks, ‘with immediate effect’ is a tragedy.

Former model and the wife of US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Melania Trump has sued the US-based publisher of the Daily Mail Online and a blogger over stories making false and defamatory statements about her supposedly being an escort in the 1990s.

The Daily Mail story last month cited a Slovenian magazine’s report that a modeling agency that Trump worked with in New York in the 1990s also served as an escort business, linking wealthy clients with women for sexual services.

7.1 magnitude quake jolts New Zealand

WELLINGTON: A powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocked New Zealand early Friday (Sep 2), the US Geological Survey said.

The tremor was estimated at a depth of around 30 kilometres, some 167 kilometres from Gisborne - off the coast of the country's north island - according to the agency.
