Monica Osagie, the victim of the sex-for-mark scandal rocking the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, says the accused lecturer, Professor Richard Akindele, was her mentor.

In a recent interview with CNN, Monica said she and the accused lecturer started a good student-lecturer relationship when she helped him edit his book but later started to ask her out. She, however, said their relationship went sour after he made sexual advances towards her.

A Lagos State Mobile Court sitting in Oshodi, has sentenced a commercial bus driver, Kenneth Anyanwu, to one year imprisonment for stabbing a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), official, Olanrewaju Yusuf. 

Magistrate F.O. Ikobayo convicted Anyanwu following his plea of guilty to a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace. She sentenced him to one year imprisonment or a fine of N50,000.

Police react as Engineer shot by robbers dies after Reddington hospital rejected him

The Lagos State Police Command, on Wednesday, warned hospital authorities against the rejection of gunshot victims or the attitude of asking for police report before treatment. 

A press statement signed by the command’s spokesman, SP Chike Oti, said the command had to repeat the warning, following a report that one hospital in Ikeja rejected a gunshot victim.

Not fewer than two people have been killed in an armed robbery attack on Tuesday at a Union bank in Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

In the operation that lasted over one hour, the robbers killed a policeman and a bank staff. Another bank worker was also reportedly shot in the arm. .

The Ilawe robbery attack happened barely a month after another old generation bank was attacked in Ifaki-Ekiti in which a police inspector was killed.

The Nigerian National Assembly has increased the amount of the 2018 budget to N9.120 trillion from N8.612 trillion.

The breakdown of the budget which was laid before both the Senate and House of Representatives, shows that the sum of N530,421,368,624 is for statutory transfer while N2,203,835,365,699 is for debt service.
