NFF bans Chris Giwa and 4 others for 5 years, orders his club Giwa FC to pay N3.9m fine

The factional self-proclaimed leader of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF Chris Giwa and four others have been slammed with a 5 years ban while his football club, Giwa FC has been fined the sum of N3.9m for offences committed against the League management company and breach of NFF rules.

The decision was reached at an extra-ordinary congress of the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, held yesterday May 12th in Abuja.

Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins score first goal for Shanghai

Obafemi Martins scored his first goal for Shanghai Shenhua. He scored two goals to help the Chinese club-side beat Qingdao Jonoon 5-0 in the Chinese FA cup 3rd round at the Hongkou Stadium yesterday Thursday May 12th.

Star striker Demba Ba opened the scoring at the 11th and 39th minutes of the first half. Guarin Fredy made it three in the 59th minute of the second half, while Obafemi Martins scored in the 56th minute via penalty and added another to make it 5 goals in the 72nd minutes of the encounter.

Femi Falana condemns the removal of oil subsidy and new pump price of N145 per liter

The removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government and the subsequent hike of the price of petrol from N86.50k to N145 per litre has been vehemently condemned by human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana. 

According to him, President Buhari has reneged on his campaign promise of not increasing pump price. Falana said this in a statement he release yesterday May 12th. Read the statement below:

Woman kidnapped and beaten for 6 days by man she met on Tinder

A 20 year old student of Lawrence college in Kansas was allegedly kidnapped and beaten for 6 days by a man she met on a social media dating site, Tinder.

The College student left her sorority house on Tuesday afternoon to spend time with 30 year old Shane Steven Allen and no one heard from her till the following Monday, when she returned battered and bruised, by Allen in fits of jealousy, according to an affidavit obtained by Journal-World.
She was taken to the hospital after she was returned to her sorority the morning of April 18 with injuries to her face, neck, chest, back and legs, after she felt a little better, she reported the assault to police.

2016 budget: Senate President Bukola Saraki assures Nigerians of adequate oversight

Following the singing into law of the 2016 Appropriation Act by President Buhari, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki has commended Nigerians for their patience while during the wait that preceded the presidential assent to the 2016 budget and promised that the National Assembly will ensure its proper implementation through diligent oversight.

He said the responsibility is now that of both the executive and the legislature to ensure that the objectives and goals of the budget are duly realized. 

Saraki was among top government functionaries including the Speaker Dogara, that witness the signing of the budget into law by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday.

This might sound a bit bizarre but me. It was a 'sex and childbirth' themed bake-off contest put together by the Lincoln County Hospital to mark the International Day of the Midwife.

A lot of bizarre range of cakes — in the shape of boobs and sperm were craftily created by staff of the maternity unit of the hospital in a bake-off on Thursday May 5.

The contest was won by withNatasha Matejtschuk whose cake depicts 24 sperm cupcakes racing towards a giant egg.

Cameroonian and Dinamo Bucharest player, Patrick Ekeng dies after collapsing on the pitch

26 years old Cameroonian international footballer Patrick Ekeng has died after collapsing on the pitch and reportedly suffering a heart attack.

The midfielder who, joined Dinamo Bucharest in January 2016 was not near any other player when he slumped in the 70th minute of the game – just seven minutes after coming on as a substitute.

He was pronounced dead by doctors at the hospital two hours after two hours after his collapse.

UK mosques ban Muslim women from wearing trousers, orders them to close FB accounts

Muslim women must not leave the house without their husband’s permission, should avoid wearing trousers and should even delete their Facebook accounts, according to rulings published by mosques and Islamic associations around Britain.

The Green Lane Masjid in Birmingham said that women were not allowed to wear trousers, even in front of their husbands, while the Central Masjid of Blackburn called Facebook a 'sin' and an 'evil'.

Lagos State Emergency Management say suicide victim is receiving treatment at a hospital

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has released a statement on the man who attempted to commit suicide yesterday at Adebisi Ogunniyi Crescent, Lekki Phase I. The statement below:

    "A man identified as Fredrick Gino, a foreigner from Cameroun climbed an electric pole in attempt to commit suicide, at Adebisi Ogunniyi Crescent, Lekki Phase I. 

    Reports from eye witnesses stated that he had been on the pole since 5:30 am. All efforts by the Community to bring him down proved abortive.

Amaechi releases statement detailing his role in the letter Sanusi sent to Jonathan about mising $49.8bn NNPC fund

Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transport, has released a statement explaining his role in the letter former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria now Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II, sent to former President Goodluck Jonathan alleging that $49.8 billion was missing from NNPC account.

In a recent interview with Forbes TV which was aired on Wednesday May 4th (read here), the Emir said the letter caused friction between him and Jonathan after someone leaked it to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Bobby Shmurda’s friend found dead, washed up on a beach with his hands tied & cement blocks on his feet

Peter Martinez, 28, pictured above, who police say was a member of Bobby Shmurda-linked G Stone Crips crew, was found dead on Wednesday May 4th, in Brooklyn.

According to NY Daily News, Peter's body washed up on Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn. His hands were tied behind his back and cement blocks were on his feet. Cement blocks is when a victim's feet is submerged in concrete before they are dumped in the river or sea so they don't come up.

The NYPD is currently investigating Peter's death...and believe it's gang-related.

The weekly series, which is set to debut this summer on VH1, is being produced by Dr. Philand will allow the 32-year-old "feminist, author, actor and entrepreneur" to bring her "unique style, hustle and hilarious point of view" to TV.

10-year-old boy has been rewarded $10,000 for hacking Instagram

A 10-year-old Finnish boy named Jani has been given $10,000 (£7,000) after he found a security flaw in image-sharing social network Instagram.

The boy, who technically is not allowed to even join the site for another three years, discovered a bug that allowed him to delete comments made by other users.
The issue was "quickly" fixed after being discovered, said Facebook, which owns Instagram.
Jani was paid soon after - making him the youngest ever recipient of the firm's "bug bounty" prize.

Former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa arrested by EFCC

According to Sahara Reporters, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday night invited former Imo state governor, Achike Udenwa, for questioning for receiving N350 million which had been diverted from last year’s presidential campaign of former president Jonathan.

He was later released after signing a bond to refund the money to the federal government within two weeks. The EFCC is presently investigating PDP's campaign funds.

President Buhari returns 2016 budget to National Assembly

According to Vanguard, President Buhari has returned the 2016 budget to the National Assembly. The decision to return the budget may not be unconnected with some discrepancies in the figure Buhari noticed in the reviewed budget documents sent to him by the Assembly members.

The re-worked budget was reportedly sent to Buhari in the early hours of today at about 1: 15am but was returned to the National Assembly at about 12.00 noon.
