International Marathon: Lagos restricts movement on major highways...announces alternative routes

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday announced restriction of movement in some of the major highways to be used for the February 6, 2016 International Marathon scheduled to start by 7am at National Stadium Surulere and terminate at Eko Atlantic City. 

The Lagos International Marathon, which was last held in 1983, is billed to be attended by over 20,000 athletes, including over 20 world class marathoners.

A Lebanese man identified as Hussien Tahir, has been convicted and sentenced to twenty four months imprisonment for Issuance of N 22 million dud cheque.

According to a statement by EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwajare, the convict, who was arraigned on October 15, 2014, had in 2009 approached the complainant with a proposal to jointly fund the execution of a capital project which he claimed was awarded to him by the Nigeria Customs Service.

Sri Lankan doctor killed husband with hammer after they had a three some sex with a teenager

Chamari Liyanage allegedly bashed her husband Dinendra Athukorala to death with a 1.79kg hammer in the couple's bed, fearing he would reveal they were having sex with a teenager. After killing her husband, she called the police. When police arrived the scene, they found her curled beside the dead body which was lying on the mattress covered in blood, which had splattered over the wall and blinds above him.

Court orders police to arrest ex-Ekiti PDP Secretary, Tope Aluko for perjury

Bristow releases statement on reported helicopter crash

The Game Loses $10 Million Sexual Assault Case

Priscilla Rainey, who contested "She Got Game" reality show claims The Game inappropriately touched her last May.

A judge ruled against The Game in a sexual assault lawsuit because he never responded to the accuser's complaint.

Priscilla Rainey, a contestant on VHI reality show "She Got Game," sued The Game for $10 million last August. She claimed that Game was extremely intoxicated and "out of control" during a shoot last May when he "forcefully reach[ed] his hand inside her dress to rub her bare vagina and buttocks."

A primary school teacher identified as Evi Iwaha pictured above, has narrated how some robbers attacked her,took her ATM card and cleared her account in the early hours of Saturday January 30th.
She narrated her story to The Nation. "It happened a few minutes to 6.00am; I’d boarded a bus supposedly to Oshodi from Obanikoro. No sooner had the bus moved than they sprang into action. The first thing they did was grab my phone; ‘What do you do? Where are you coming from?’one of them asked. I was hopeful that they’d take pity on me, having told them I was just a primary school teacher. 

Pep Guardiola signs 3 year deal with Manchester City

Manchester City have confirmed that Pep Guardiola will take over this summer to replace Manuel Pellegrini, who will leave on 30 June, 2016. Today being the transfer deadline day, City announced  the news at the end of Guardiola's press conference. They released a statement today which read:

Photos: Northern governors visit Islamic Development Bank officials in Saudi Arabia to appeal for developmental partnership

Some Northern governors are currently in Saudi Arabia on a 3-day visit to the Islamic Development Bank in Jedda, Saudi Arabia, where they are to meet with the bank's president, Ahmad Ali and other top officials, to solicit for partnership to help facilitate development in the region. The meeting between the governors and the bank's top executives started today and will last till Tuesday Feb. 2nd.

The governors were led by Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, who is also the Chairman of the Northern States Governors ‘ Forum, NSGF. Governors Tanko Almakura of Nassarawa, Nasiru El-Rufai of Kaduna and Mohammed Abubakar of Jigawa are part of the delegation.

A 4 year old girl and her father were among those that were burnt to death inside their homes during an attack on Dalori, a settlement situated on the outskirt of Maiduguri, Borno state yesterday January 30th. Over 100 people were reportedly killed during the attack which lasted over 3 hours. The sect members, dressed in military uniform, shot people dead and burnt homes. President Buhari has reacted to the recent bomb attacks in Chibok market, Dolari Internally Displaced Person’s (IDP) camp in Borno State and the Gombi market in Adamawa State.

In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba and released this evening, President Buhari said the insurgents had suffered immensely from the sustained bombardments of their camps and hide outs by the Nigerian military and had resorted to using desperate measures to gain cheap media attention.

APC condemns Mbaka’s transfer by Enugu Catholic Diocese

The APC has condemned the transfer of popular Enugu cleric, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka from Christ the King Parish in the Government Reserved Area, GRA, of the state to Our Lady Parish in Emene, a suburb of the state.

In a statement released today January 31st, the spokesperson of the APC South-East zone, Osita Okechukwu, condemned Mbaka's transfer and alleged that the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo influenced Mbaka’s transfer to a new parish where he will serve under someone else.

Father Mbaka says he is going to suffer following his transfer to another Parish

Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, yesterday Jan. 30th bowed out of Christ the King Parish, GRA, Enugu, which he'd presided over as parish priest for 20 years. On his way to his new presiding parish, Our lady Parish, Emene, in Enugu, over 30 lorries accom­panied by thousands of his faithful followers escorted him in a motorcade to a new church where he will be an assistant parish priest.

The transfer of reverend fathers is not an issue in the catholic church as it is a routine exercise that is done every once in a while but Fr. Mbaka’s transfer became an issue because the people saw it as a measure for his recent prophecies especially that of Decem­ber 31st 2014, when he predicted that former President Goodluck Jonathan would be defeated in the 2015 elections. This has however been dismissed by the church.

Tension in Olomoro as Kidnappers abduct another Delta monarch, HRM Aghaza I

Unknown gunmen on Friday January 29th abducted the Odio-ologobo (traditional ruler) of Olomoro Kingdom in Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, HRM Josiah Umukoro Aghaza I, barely 24 days after Fulani herdsmen kidnapped and murdered the Obi of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.
Authoritative sources told Saturday Vanguard that the royal father was going to his palace at about 10.00 am after departing the residence of his wife when the armed men suspected to be kidnappers, numbering four, ambushed him, dragged him out of his car and took him hostage.

LASG explains boat collision incident in Ibeshie

The Lagos State Government at the weekend confirmed the boat collision incident reported at Ibeshe in Ikorodu axis of the state on Thursday January 21, 2016, just as it restated its commitment to continue to improve on safety on the State waterways.

In a statement signed by the Managing Director of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mrs. Abisola Kamson said the incident which occurred at about 8:05am was as a result of the early morning fog which led to poor visibility for the captains of the two boats.

Wicked! Man stabs 7 months pregnant neighbour after she catches him trying to rob her

A mother of two, Mrs. Oyinyechi Chinaka, who was 7 months pregnant with her 3rd child, was reportedly stabbed several times by her neighbor when she caught him rummaging through her purse and trying to steal money from it in her home on Anjorin street, Mushin, Lagos. She was quickly rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, but she lost the pregnancy.
The suspect was said to have stabbed Mrs. Chinaka with a kitchen knife severally times on her stomach, arm and neck and left to bleed to death.

12-year-old US-born striker, Lateef Omidiji Jr, currently plays for the Under-14 team of Netherlands second division side Dordrecht FC. However, he already has a place reserved for him in the Nigeria U15 side based on first hand scouting by its coach Danladi Nasidi.

Former presidential candidate of the defunct All Peoples Party (APP) Chief Olu Falae, who was allegedly accused of receiving N100m from the $2.1 billion arms money from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki, in an interview said:
"I want to say with all emphasis that I never took even one naira from Dasuki. Beyond that, I want to assert that I never had any relationship with Dasuki. I knew Dasuki way back in 1986-87,when he was ADC to General Babagida and I was Secretary to the Federal Government. Since he left that government around 1987, I had no contact or dealing with him; absolutely none".
